Harris Tweed — Commissioned 1846
In 1846, the Countess of Dunmore commissioned handwoven cloth from the weavers of Harris. What began as a favor to island crofters became Harris Tweed — the only fabric in the world protected by an Act of Parliament.
Every meter must be handwoven on the Outer Hebrides. In island cottages. On wooden looms older than cars.
